About

Debbie Miller is a fine art painter who received a BFA in Illustration at Rhode Island School of Design.
A Rhode Island native, at age 6 she dreamed of being either a ballerina or a painter.  She gave up the dancer dream soon after but has been an artist ever since.  Raised in a home that encouraged creativity, her evolution as a painter was inevitable.

Since graduating from RISD she has worked as a freelance artist, decorative painter, teacher and master painter at a folk art company.  In 2006 she made the transition back to her first love; oil painting. Bringing to her art a bold palette, strong composition and a colorful, illustrative style.  Attention to gesture, to the stance or posture of a subject, and masterful color evokes a memory or feeling or mood in her oil paintings.   Her paintings are her stories, her view onto what is important and beautiful. She can’t NOT tell them.

Debbie's work draws heavily on her love of the human form, she paints regularly from live models and fills sketch books with figure drawings of people “doing their thing”. Two years ago she began a weekly practice of painting portraits from the live model.  Her Portrait Project now consists of over  100 paintings that she displays in her studio like a giant quilt of faces as well as sharing them on her blog.

Still calling Rhode Island home with her husband and 3 boys, the Ocean State's beaches and the people who visit them are a constant source of inspiration.  Debbie lives a creative life bringing art and creativity into her home and garden, sharing her ideas and DIY projects and inspiring others to live a creative life is what inspires her.
She maintains a studio in Warren RI where she teaches workshops on occasion and the studio is open to visitors by chance or appointment.  Debbie's work is in private collections in the US and Europe.
