Book Trees

This years Christmas craft obsession.  Paperback book trees.  So easy and who doesn't love a good re-purpose,  recycle,  FREE project?   Just google "paper back book trees" and you will get all the how-tos.

#getoutside

nfdp -
I love this time of year.  Crisp, cold days are my favorite and I've made a "note to self" to get outside a lot over this winter - especially during the next few hectic weeks.  This time, I had a visitor, who was not one bit afraid of me.

Finally after a long turf war, she hopped into the brush.  Nothing like a deer encounter to get you in the holiday spirit

Four in Gold Frames

I'm trying to get a large sized commission done that needs to be shipped to London for Christmas... among others.  Distracted by that work, I missed the deadline for a show.  (hey, it happens)
I framed these little cuties in gold this time and I will offer them here this week instead- so stay tuned!!

Loving gold frames again - I went through a " I hate gold frames" phase but they really do set off these very well and they make really nice Christmas gifts.
(psssst.....normally my framed paintings this size are $300 - these will be offered for $200 - consider it a pre-holiday
sale) edit: $300 each painting/$200 eachsale

White Pumpkins

nfdp

I'm dreaming of a white pumpkin...  ok, ok, I've got all my holidays jumbled right now.  Who can blame me?, it was JUST Halloween, and now it is snowing on November 2 and Christmas movies are playing on the Hallmark Channel (don't ask me how I know this)
White pumpkins are the fall harvest gift that keeps on giving - great for Halloween but they are a much easier to live with color than the bright orange jack o lanterns.
Best things to hit the farm stands since seedless watermelons.

Teach Art Tuesdays - Leaf Peepers

I have a little group of preschoolers that do art with me on tuesday afternoons - they are so sweet.  Mostly we do a lot of "process art".  Sometimes we do get "crafty" though.  This project pretty much explains itself - except it is good to press the leaves before hand so they lay flat.
There still is a lot of learning going on here - dexterity, and glue skills! Not to mention design and composition decisions.  They really got into this.

Hello October

nfdp
October already?!  Bring it.  October is awesome in Little Rhody.
My teaching gig started up and I can't resist working owls into my lesson plans!
These make me smile every year.

A little R+R

Nfdp-
Just back from a little vaca in beautiful Camden Maine.  Feeling pretty lucky That I got to spend some time there.  New England rocks!  Refreshed and recharged

Ponder this:

Did you see this article : http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/02/18/second-mona-lisa-deemed-authentic/

Totally plausible to me.  Artists paint the same thing all the time, right?  I do.  I did it this week And last month
But, there are so many fakes and forgeries out there, how can they be SURE?

Just a little something to ponder on this gorgeous summer day....

Some of what I've been doing lately... when I get an image that I like - in this case the 3 boys, often I will try it out many different ways. starting with literal then moving more away from that into something more raw.  Also, abstract-y, dreamy landscapes are starting to appear.  More grays and yellows too.

Swimmer with Bracelet 0814-1

10x10" oil on raised panel. $300
Wow, June and July are pretty much a blur.  Very busy doing commissions for many  - thank you all!!

It has been fun, and I've fallen into a nice painting routine.  I enjoy that part a lot - the routine, the getting down to business, the process.  The creativity flows from the "just showing UP".

This swimmer just appeared one day- after the labor intensive commission work.  I like her sassy attitude. She must swim laps in the ocean everyday.  I gave her a little charm bracelet, just because...

Beach Kids 2 ways

Every now and then I get an image for a commission that really hits the nail on the head.  I mean, I might as well have taken this photo, right?
My kind of image, so painting it was fun.  So fun that I did 2!
I've got my fave.  Which one do you like?

Ponder it over the weekend.  I'll tell you which one the collector choose on Monday.
